Where is the crank position sensor on a 2.3l Ford Ranger?
i have a 95 ranger with the 2.3L The sensor is located behind the harmonic balancer. It has three grooves in it that slide on unique spaced rings. The timing belt cover will have to be removed from the front in order to access the harness as it enters from the rear of the cover. It becomes visible once the harmonic balancer (or its belt retaining ring ) is removed. To service it you will have to remove the large bolt in the center that holds the balancer on. Then slide the balancer off and you can loosen the two screws holding it on. There is also a wire tie holding the harness down so that it does not rub any moving parts. Be sure to replace this when reassembling. There is an alignment tool made by OTC ( part number 6466 ) that you will need to use to position a new or replacement sensor. Place the engine at top dead center while on the compression stroke and place the little plastic tool on the locating blocks and exciter ring(s) of the harmonic balancer. At that point you can place the sensor and tighten down the screws that hold the sensor on.

Where is the crank position sensor located in a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 liter V8 petrol?
Position senor. If you have an inline 6 cyl the position sensor should located on the upper left side [drivers side]of the bell housing. It has two wires and is secured by two 7/16 bolts. And a pain in the butt to get to without having the jeep on a lift. make sure when reinstalling the sensor that the wires are not coming into contact with your exaust manifold or the exaust pipes. they will get hot and melt down to the wire and ground out causing the sensor to fail. My Personal Experience For Grand Cherokee Jeep Limited 1999/2000, the CKP sensor is located on the right side (driver side) at the end of the engine block when you open the hood and facing the engine block..the sensor sits on the bell housing..It has its cable connector end pulled all the way to the left side of the engine block and connected there, so you may have to first locate and grab that connector cable end, near the oil filter at that left side at the end of the engine block , and then you feel and trace the connector cable all the way through the back of the engine block back to the CKP sensor on the right end side of the engine block in order to easily locate the sensor. whew! Now, I have to warn you that its very difficult to replace the CKP sensor no matter what anyone tells you.. because you will have to lift the car axle up and get underneath the car to have some access to the sensor..even with that.. you will need foot long screwdrivers, 1/8 wrench , handy light for illumination and all kinds of difficulties in avoiding mutliple cables along the way in order to get to the sensor and unscrew it out..and that's not all.. its very difficult to put a new one back in too once you remove the sensor!..you may have to glue bolts/screws to your wrench and screwdrivers to make a fix back..they keep falling off due to odd angle of access to where you need to screw them in....I tried to do it..It was very difficult.. My suggestion, don't spend your valuable time trying to do this replacement part..just order online your CKP sensor ($55) and get a freelance mechanic to fix it for you..labor cost is around $70 and it only takes about 45mins for a good professional to replace the sensor.. much easier and faster that way.
Where is the camshaft position sensor - CPS - located on a Mercury Sable - Ford Taurus?
NOTES Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Your cam position sensor or the wiring leading to it has gone bad. It will cause occasional rough running and hard starting until it is replaced. If you live in a county that does emissions testing, your car WILL FAIL unless it is fixed. Answer If you have a 3.0 12 valve engine is is located at the rear of the engine block, under the throttle body area. If you have a 3.0 DOHC 24 valve, it is located on the timing cover, held in with a 8mm bolt. Answer The cam sensor is on the drivers side, on the intake manifold a few inches down from the intake air hose ,back of engine, it is in there sort of tight, I am still trying to figure the best way to take it out. Answer What engine? On a Ford 3.8L Engine, the cam position sensor is on the right side of the engine, in the front, near the A/C compressor, it is above the crankshaft position sensor, and since they have the same connector, don't mix them up, the cam is above the crank, on the 4.6L engine, the cam sensor is on the left side, under the power steering fluid reservoir. Answer If it's the 3.0 OHV engine it's located on the driver side of the engine between the throttle-body and spark distributor back under a wire bundle. It's located where the mechanical distributor used to be. The Cam position sensor on my 97 Ford Aerostar 3.0 replaced the distributor Is mounted on top at back of motor sits atop of the lower half of distributor/oil shaft mount .Check there. Found out it's called a camshaft synchronizer that it's mounted on. Answer If you have a 3.0, 12 valve engine, it is buried under an engine wiring harness, at the rear of the engine, close to the throttle body, near the top of the transmission bellhousing, on top of the CAM synchronizer, held on with two 7/32 screws. If you have a 3.0 DOHC 24 valve, it is located in the timing cover, held on with one 8mm bolt. Answer which 3.0 do you have? The 3.0 12 valve, (VIN code U-8th digit), or the 3.0 DOHC 24 valve(VIN code S)? Answer My Fault I should clarify that answer, (I just found the thing myself) it's on the driver's side under the wire harness that runs under the intake (beside the spark plug wire holder). The thing bends a piece of metal that's suppose to revolve around the magnet of the sensor. Answer If you are talking about a 3.0 (12 valve), it is on the camshaft position synchronizer at the rear of the engine under the engine control wiring harness, below the thermostat housing area. If you are talking about a 3.0 (24 valve), it bolts to the front of the timing cover with an 8mm bolt. Replacing the Sensor 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable...just like on every other installation 2. Detach the CMP sensor connector next. 3. Remove the CMP sensor retaining bolt and remove the CMP sensor Now to install: 1. Clean the CMP sensor surface and ensure that the O-Ring is in place. 2. Position the CMP sensor into the engine and tighten the retaining bolt to 71-106 inch lbs. 3. Attach the CMP sensor connector 4.Connect the negative battery cable. Answer the sensor is a little black connector and box right next to the crank shaft if you are standing on the passenger side of the car look straight down to the bottom pulley you will see the plug with a wire on the left side Answer It is located on the right hand side of the engine (you standing at the front of the car) under the wiring harness going up into the engine to the left of the throttle cable. Real pain to get at and replace but can be done with no special tools. 7/32 in. wrench is the only way to get at it. I am in the process of changing mine now. You have to remove part of the throttle assembly and unplug some things to be able to move the wiring harness enough to get to the bolts. It's not really to bad though I fear I might need to replace the entire assembly requiring me to remove the intake and entire throttle assembly. My 02 Taurus SE runs fine but squeaks from the assembly. Hopefully your Taurus only needs the sensor. S Answer The cam sensor is on the drivers side, on the intake manifold a few inches down from the intake air hose ,back of engine, it is in there sort of tight, I am still trying to figure the best way to take it out.

The crank sensor is located at the front of the engine (right side of the car) mounted slightly to the right of the belt pulleys. It sits just above the crankshaft. It is approximately 2 - 3/4 inches long and has two small cap screws, one on either side. Both can be accessed from the top without pulling the right front wheel. Tools needed: 1/4 drive rachet and a 9/32 inch - 1/4 drive socket or 1/4 drive - 7 mm socket, 8 mm wrench and portable drop light. Procedure: 1. Use 8 mm wrench to disconnect positive battery terminal. 2. Press in clip on pigtail and remove connector from top of sensor 3. Remove cap screws with rachet and socket. 4. Put a drop of Loctite medium strength on both cap screws. 5. Install new sensor (be careful to seat guide ring on back of top mounting hole into seat around bolt hole - when you start the cap screw it should set in place with no problem) 6. Install bottom screw and snug both. 7. Optional (use feeler gauge and check clearance between sensor tip and crank trigger. Clearance should be around .035 -.040 in.) 8. Tighten both cap screws - be careful not to overtighten. These are small bolts, easy to wring off. 9. Reconnect battery terminals. 10. Crank engine - done. Hope this helps. Jim B.
