Check and see if any lights have been left on. If they have then you ran down the battery! You know it is the battery. Has the alternator light been on? If so, you should have taken it in before this!

Usually it is the battery. That is the first thing to check. If you have jumper cables, it is usually easy to get a jump and see if you can get the car started that way. If you can, then, if you did not leave your lights on, you want to go and get the problem fixed.

The next thing that it might be is the starter relay. I can manually trip a starter relay but you can't. If you can not get it started with jumper cables, you need to call someone to fix it for you. Sometimes it is a module. Sometimes I can replace a part in 2 minutes it would take you all day to find.

From most to least likely: 1. Starter solenoid is not getting power 2. Starter solenoid is bad 3. Starter gear is stripped 4. Flywheel ring gear is stripped Age of starter is not really relevant. It is possible to get a defective one. Check electrical connections. Some cars have a sep (MORE)

What is the problem when the car makes a clicking sound instead of turning over and starting?

It is one of several potential problems. If it's low battery voltage the battery is unable to maintain enough current to engage and operate the starter. What causes a clicking sound and the car not to start when the battery is charged?

Answer . \nThen your battery is still not charged. The clicking sound is the solenoid that has a little gear on it that engages with the ring gear of the engine to spin it. There is a certain amount of voltage needed to push that solenoid into the ring gear and your battery isn't putting out eno (MORE)

My 1998 Pontiac Sunfire makes a clicking sound when you try to start the car and we tried to charge the battery and still would not start?

Had the car been starting OK until this problem surfaced? If so, the starter is probably eliminated as a culprit. If the battery cable connections are loose and/or cruddy, either at the battery or at the other ends of those cables, (black goes to a ground, red goes to the starter) you will not (MORE)

Clicking sound when starting car?

A number of things could be wrong in this instance. The battery could have just enough power to drive the solenoid responsible for engaging the starter, or (if the battery is known to be good) the starter itself could be going bad. The starter is nothing more than an extremely powerful electric moto (MORE)

My 1999 Subaru Legacy wont start thought the battery was shot so i relplaced it but it still just makes a click sound when i turn the key the radio still works but car wont start can you help?

The biggest nistake a would-be mechanic can do is to start buying and replacing parts hoping to eventually solve whatever is wrong with the vehicle. It is much wiser to invest $11-$14 on a repair manual (Chilton or Haynes) for your vehicle and use the trouble-shooting guides to help find the cause(s (MORE)

Check the battery connections. One or both could be corroded. If that's not it, check the battery. If it's not fully charged or if it's unable to TAKE a charge there may not be enough energy available in the battery to operate the starter. Remember that a battery is simply an electrical energy S (MORE)
