How do you open a 2003 S10 hood with a broken cable?
If the plastic hood release handle broke, you can reach in there and grab the cable with pliers and pull.
Where is the cable broken? They usually break at the handle so just use pliers to pull the cable end sticking out. May help to have someone push down a little on the hood if the latch is dry and sticking. That's usually why they break.

Open the hood as far as you can then use a flat-blade screwdriver to pust the latch. Just remember to always carry the tool and a flashlight to locate the latch.
Answer . if you look up under the hood in front there a little slider that the cable runs to you can slide it and it should pop
Answer . \nI've had this problem with my '99. Try having someone push down on the hood (to reduce pressure on the latch) while you pull the hood release. You can also tr…y pulling hard and fast on the release, but you risk breaking the plastic release handle. The "pull-hard" method was my solution- the handle took more abuse than I expected. If you get the hood open, grease the latch where it contacts the hood and try to run light oil down the cable. Mine was a combination of sticking latch and binding cable.
Answer . \nI had the same problem with my 1995 LHS. The only remedy is to carry a set of pliers in your glove box. I replaced the cable handle once but it broke again.
my cougar's hood has been broken for about 6 years now, it takes 2 people to open it but one sticks a long screw driver in where you normally would pull on the cable there is …like a little button that you push and the other person needs to lift on the hood while you are pushing the button with the screw driver.
Open Broken Hood Latch Answer . \nI have done this in the past on some vehicles. Try to look through the grill and locate the hood latch mechanism. If you can see and reac…h the cable, grab it with a pair of needle nose plyers or such and pull hard to release the catch. If the cable is not visable, try a long screw driver to push the latch open. Hope this helps. Good luck! LDE
Answer . \nIf you can find the cable under the hood, or if you can get to the cable where it's broken, a pair of vise-grips and a healthy pull should open it up.
Hoods . As with any car question it depends on the vehicle. You could try prying the hood open with your hands or taking a flat tool to use for a lever to pry it open. Yo…u could also try jacking up the car and if you have a long enough arm you oculd work the latch from underneath. If you know how to do it yourself you could replace the hood cable as well. Best of luck
To open a jammed hood on a 2003 Hyundai raise the vehicle's frontend. Safely stabilize it and take a flashlight under the car tolocate the latch. Use a flat head screwdriver t…o manipulate thelatch and open it.
Answer . Use a screwdriver to release the hood latch through the front grille. Take a look at the hood latch on another car to get an idea of how they work.
If the cable is broken at the handle in the car, you may be able to grap the broken cable with a pair of locking pliers. If you can, pull it while you have someone pushing dow…n on the hood. That will make it easier for it to unlatch. If it's broken where you can't reach it, oh boy, you may be able to grab the cable housing through the grill, cut it and grab the inner cable that way. Hope this helps. Good luck. 1
hey there, i had the same problem, but i figured it out! and now I'm gonna help you! grab a screw driver or something like that (thin, "pokey", and not easily broken), I used …a SPOON! haha. right under your hood in the middle in the front, well actually slightly to the right and up a little bit theres a "loop" kind of thing. you need to push it back with your spoon or whatever you are using. that will open the hood as if you pulled the "hood release" lever in the cab, then all you gotta do is reach your hand in there and grab the handle that is slightly to the left of the middle and open it all the way. ________________________________________________________________________ .........................................L ____ m*____|.................................................... ________________________________|_______________________________________ (L) is the hand lever (m) is the middle (*) is the thing you gotta push kind of a crappy diagram, good luck!
Push out the plastic grommit located in the windshield wiper mechanism through behind each latch. Carefully insert a screwdriver through each now open hole and lift up on latc…h tang. Each side will require a different length screwdriver. If yours is already broken, I would check out a friends C3. It is quite easy once see how every thing is located and opperates.
You can still pull the cable. Reach under the dash you should be able to find it
Get some wood wedges and hammer them in between the grille and hood just enough to get a wrench to reach the bolts on the hood striker. Remove the striker bolts and the hood w…ill be able to be lifted open.

Depends on where it broke. Inside, you can get to the cable and pull the end with pliers. Half way, you should be able to reach the cable on the front of the radiator support,… cut it and pull the cable. If the end at the latch broke, can you get the grill off and then take the latch loose or possible reach through with an extention and take the bolt out holding the latch.
This is a procedure to open the hood when the cable has broken thatis valid for a 2003 Corolla: 1) The cable may be stretched: a) Pull on the hood release handle, b) Get to t…he cable underneath with some pliers/vice grips and pullit more than what the handle can manage. c) Replace the cable before the next time! 2) The cable may have broken at the release handle: Same as 1) above if you still have some cable inside the car Same as 3) below if there's no cable inside the car. 3) The cable may have broken at the hood latch or anywhere inbetween: a) If you can safely lift the front end of the car (e.g. with jackstands), do so b) From below, you can reach up to the latch (between the grill andthe radiator) and remove the plastic cover; no tools required, it'sjust held there by a few plastic tabs. Pull down on the two tabs onthe bottom and pull the cover toward the front of the car. You canthen wiggle it out to the left or right. c) See where the cable usually comes into the latch assembly:looking at the assembly through the grill from the front, it comesin on the right, at the bottom of the assembly, behind what isimmediately visible when looking through the grill. If you don'thave a Corolla, maybe try to find pictures online to see where thecable goes if you can't figure it out by looking at it. d) Using the handle for the jack (with the 2 bends in it), insertthe handle end (not the one with the hook that you put in the jack)through the grill, on the left of the assembly, and press (towardthe right) on the part that the cable would usually pull on. If thecable was your problem, the hood will pop up at this point. In an EMERGENCY you can jack the car up and do the steps under 3)above. Try to keep only your should/arm under the car and keep youhead away from the metal bits that would crush it if the car wereto fall. This is potentially very dangerous but you can doeverything with the jack and jack handle so it can be useful inemergencies (such as being out of washer fluid many kilometers awayfrom your destination in the winter and not being able to see ifyou don't clean your windshield). If 3) above doesn't work, your problem may not be the cable and Ican't help you (the cable was my problem so I stopped there).
