04 dodge neon engine makes ticking noise when cold?
You might want to look into the piston slap issues of aluminum pistons like those in the neon. Also, be aware of the fact that rings can not only get sticky but have a buildup occur on them, this can also cause an increase in oil consumption. You can read more on issue like this if you search on products like rislone, a cleaner product to clean off and free up sticky rings. As with most things, you could have a combination of factors but these issues could be worth knowing about, might even be your fix. Best of luck - A 2000 Neon owner

What make the ticking noise coming from the engine on the 1992 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 auto 2 wheel drive?
Answer . I would try an engine flush to clean the hydraulic lifters. Follow the directions on the can..
Answer . take it back to the dealer it should be under warrenty still..
Why would a 1997 Dodge Caravan engine make a tapping-ticking noise that went away after warming up but now is constant and seems to come from the top of the engine?
Answer . The 3.0L engine had a problem with the lifters that would cause the top end to tick. There is a TSB i believe on how to fix it. If the ticking is coming from the b…ottom of the engine (sometimes hard to tell) then you might have a Con-Rod knock that starting to show. Eitherway take it to a mechanic for diagnoses.
The engine is making a ticking noise when the rpm goes above 2000 the noise starts to fade away after a while and is louder when the engine is cold any ideas?
Answer . This sounds like a hydraulic valve lifter that is dirty, sticking and is not getting enough oil to lubricate the lifter. After the engine warms up and the oil pre…ssure is stable, the lifter begins to get enough oil and quiets down. Try changing your oil and use a lighter weight oil like 10/W/30. After 2500 miles return to your former vescosity oil.
YES . \nDefinately. Have it looked at by a professional.
Most likely it's your valves in need of adjustment.
Why is there a loud squealing noise from the engine during cold seasons was well as when the heat is turned on for a 1997 Dodge Neon?
Alternator belt needs adjusting
Oil slow getting to the head
I have a 99 Camaro V6. The engine is making a ticking noise when it starts cold then when it warms up it is fine any suggestions?
it may be an exhaust manifold gasket. when they are bad, they make a tapping soud til it heats up and semi-seals itself. it's one thing to have checked.
With the Dawoo Nubira if you ear a ticking noise check immediately for a bad timing belt!!! The service intervals for those are 5 years or 60,000 miles. But they are also s…usceptible to dry rot. If that belt goes you could be calling the junk yard to come get your car... The Dawoo Nubria has what is called an "interference" engine. Which means that if the belt fails completely the valves will be hanging open when the piston comes to the top of the cylinder bending valves in the head and destroying the head. A timing belt cost about $250 USD to replace in a shop. If it fails it will cost you thousands of dollars to repair. That being said,.. there are other things that can cause a ticking sound. Bad gas, worn or out of adjustment valves, engine timing, ect. But none of those things bear the consequences of the worn out timing belt. So if your belt is out of maintenance parameters CHANGE THAT BELT!!! Mine takes me about 2 hours to change myself in my driveway. I change mine at 50K, and the part only cost me $50 USD.
Normally only a very minor whir.
Check the oil. Failed lifters/rocker arms would not be uncommon.

There are a few things that "tick" while an engine is running, one being the fuel injectors, but they shouldn't be loud enough to really hear any difference between idling and… accelerating. The other being valve adjustment, or in the valve train itself. That could be one of several possibilities like timing, timing advancement or lack of, low oil pressure which operates the lifters for the valves, (if hydraulic), worn camshaft, worn tappets, (if O.H.C.), low oil level. Kinda hard to pinpoint it without actually hearing it in person, but i hope that may lead you in the right direction.

The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the em…issions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

Worn valve train? Hydraulic valve lifter worn or "hung-up"? Lack of lubrication to rocker arms?

Ignore the previous answer. Whoever posted that is WRONG. The 5.4 (As you obviously know) , is a GAS engine. A ticking noise in a 5.4 could be a number of things. Cracke…d exhaust manifold, Bad EGR Valve, a bad lash adjuster, or it's getting ready to blow a spark plug.

Insufficient information is given - but it could possibly be a sticking valve lifter that quiets down and the noise goes away after the engine is warm and the oil is circula…ting.
