If your transmission went out on a 1998 Dodge Ram should you get a new automatic trans or would it be cheaper to switch to manual?
If you use the truck for anything other than just driving it around town or slow higway driving, I would get rid of the auto and swap a manual in. I own a 98 ram and use it as a hunting truck and mostly offhighway venihclebut take care of it and don't rag on it, but I'm still on my 4th transmission.… Im swapping in amanual this time. I should have done it right the first time it went out and got rid of the auto then. stick with the auto. The amount of work involved in conversion would be too much. Plus cost of a flywheel, clutch assy, and trans would be huge. Be sure to have trans codes checked before a overhaul. Once in a great while I fix a Dodge because it needs a sensor or such. Dan the tranny man Well i have a 96 dodge 1500, and depending on what the trans is doing it could also be the relays in the transmission. If it seems like it won't shift into the higher gears or like its slipping that could be the problem. To say the least I'm just a mechanic wana be lol. (MORE)

That depends on the model year, engine type, and engine displacement. Pre 1993 carbureted models use an inline filter located in locations as follows: . On 4 cylinder carbureted engines, the fuel filter (and incorporated reservoir), is located adjacent to the carburetor. . On V6 carbureted en…gines, the fuel filter is located on the front, passenger corner of the engine, next to the oil sump and almost directly below the fuel pump. Follow the fuel lines to it. Pre 1993 fuel injected models use an inline fuel filter located on the driver's side framerail, under the truck box. 1994 and later, fuel injected models, use a fuel filter that is integerated with the fuel pump module inside the fuel tank. To replace the filter, the entire fuel pump module must be replaced. This requires the removal of either the fuel tank, or the truck box. Either method is about the same amount of work. (MORE)

Hello,. If the O2 sensor is malfunctioning and you have gone through the effort to remove it, you are better off replacing it. Cleaning it won't help. If it isn't having a problem, then I wouldn't try to fix something that isn't broken. You have a fifty-fifty shot at destroying it just trying to ge…t it out. Location (s) of Brake Light Switches I am not familiar with your vehicle, BUT... generally, there are two types of brake light switches, and the type determines the location. The most common brake light switch is a mechanical switch, and they are usually located behind/below the dashboard, ne…ar, and above the brake pedal arm. Sometimes they are mounted on a metal dashboard brace, and occassionally, some even mount/"ride" on the brake pedal arm itself! Also, most of the mechanical types are operated by a plunger extending out of the switch, and in contact with a fixed, or moving, part of the bracket or brake pedal arm. The other type of brake light switch is a hydraulically operated switch and is usually located inside the engine compartment, and attached to [screws into] the brake master cylinder , or a junction block in the brake system hydraulic tubing which splits the brake lines off to go to the wheel slave cylinders.
