Why would all the gauges on an 01 Dodge Ram 1500 go out the odometer say 'no bus' and all the warning lights come on but the truck runs fine?
, I had the same "no bus" all gauges dead on my 2000 ram 1500. after looking at all the different answer posted I tried all of them and the one that worked. Was disconnecting the main plug held down by a screw in the fuse box on the engine compartment. I disconnected, blew the plug and the connect w…ith compressed air, plug it back in tighten the screw and my truck is fine again. Everyhing works as it should. thx My father in law just had this problem and discovered, with the help of our local mechanic, that there was a short (or a loose connection) in the steering column, possibly caused by the fact that my father in law adjusts the steering wheel every time he gets in or out of the truck. The wires in the steering column are bound quite tightly, and do not allow for the vertical movement of the steering column. Total cost of the repair was $60 cdn. and a case of beer. your computer is dead. a "bus" is what the main information transfer lines in a computer are called. "no bus" means no information transfer. that one is gonna be SPENDY. most likely a couple thousand dollars. This does not have to be a computer problem. This can also indicate a loose fuse or a simple bad connection. The bus is simply the ground for the electrical devices in the vehicle. It's a fundamental rule: go for the simple stuff before you spend a pot of money on the complex. Had a similar problem and the parking brake was the problem and needed adj-. A simple nudge until hearing the parking brake "click" was a quick temporary fix. Only difference was my truck would not start until this was done. Make this simple for everyone NO BUS gauges not working is a AGGREGATING ASS PROBLEM. However when you fix it you'll kick your self for how easy it was and wont cost you but maybe 5.00. heres the basic your main fuse panel under the hood has a screw in it with a huge contact. that contact has gone bad/ dirty take out the screw blow out the contact with compressed air pack it with electrical grease put it back in put the screw in TIGHT HAND ONLY and watch all your gauges come back to life. I got a great mech here where i live and after 2 diff dealerships telling me buy a new cluster i knew someone was full of it. then one said my brain was dead . MINI NEWS FLASH IF YOUR BRAIN IN YOUR TRUCK IS DEAD YOUR TRUCK WILL NOT START! again very simple 30 mins fix had this problem off n on for 6 years in my 99 ram which i still have and drive on weekends mine is 1999 V-6 with a super chip i take out to joy ride. do what i said above an your problem will be solved. i haven't had another issue with mine in over 2 years and have gone about 14000 miles without gauges failing (MORE)
Answer . \nYou may have a clutch problem if the engine and transmission are not being fully disconnected during clutch pedal operation. The clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder are directly related to clutch operation, if these are not working properly it will cause your clutch to slip. If …you can locate an inspection cover or hole at the front of the transmission you can actually watch while a helper operates the pedal to see if the clutch is disengaging from the flywheel. You might notice a change in pedal feel this also indicates a problem. The other problem you could be having is an internal transmission problem consisting of damaged or worn shift syncronizers. Syncronizers are placed between every gear inside your trans. they provide the smooth mesh of gears while operating the gear shifter. Your trans will have to be removed and overhauled or replaced if this is the problem (MORE)
overdrive lockout . \n4th gear is overdrive. the computer locks out overdrive until the transmission fluid is up to normal operating temperature. once up to normal temp, the vehicle will shift into overdrive and all is well. there is only a problem if the vehicle does not shift into 4th AFTER …reaching proper operating temperature.\n. \nThe thinking is that the transmission warms up faster in 3rd than it would in 4th (overdrive). I believe this type of control is due to environmental laws, or fuel consumption considerations.\n. \nwhat confuses me is that the recommended operating procedure when towing or hauling is to manually lock out overdrive in an effort to keep trans fluid cooler.\n. \nhere you have specia controls built into the vehicle to warm up tans fluid faster by using 3rd gear. then, once up to normal temp, you need to lock out 4th because trans fluid will run cooler in 3rd. very odd. I been trying to find out why this is for a long time. (MORE)
Answer . Its real easy. 1st Get a breaker bar (an extremely long ratchet like a torque wrench). Locate the idler pulley and the size the bolt for a socket that holds the idler pulley on the idler arm (Hint: The idler pulley is just a pulley connected to a springloaded assembly attached to your en…ginge block putting pressure on the serpentine belt so it is tight around all the component pulleys (alternator, power steering, crankshaft, etc. pulleys).Using the correct size socket attached to the breaker bar for leverage put the socket onto the bolt head and pull or push the bolt head of the idler puller either forward or backward (which ever way causes the tension arm to move thus moving the idler pulley so that pressure is removed from the serpentine belt). Now remove the serpentine belt. A serpentine belt diagram should be located somewhere on a decal near the radiator or some other location under the hood...if not, before you remove the serpentine belt, map out the serpentines route with pen and paper so you can put the new one on the same exact way. When putting on the new belt you will again have to position the idler pulley usig the breaker bar and socket such that you can stretch the new belt over all the component pulleys...please note...you will only have one free hand when your doing this, so make it count and be patient...you will succeed. Good luck ...firstname.lastname@example.org (MORE)
Why does your Dodge Ram truck make a ticking sound when it shifts into over-drive or when going up a bridge It sounds like one piston?
Answer . \nYour vehicle is pinging; this is due to the factory timing, grade of fuel, and when you go into overdrive, buck a wind, pull a trailer,go up a grade you will notice it because of the increased load on the engine.Just for a test add an octane booster or fill with preminum next time and …see if it dissappears; if it does, ask your dealer if there are any SERVICE BULLETINS on this problem.A light ping does not cause any harm but anymore than a light ping can hurt the engine. I hope this helps you a little. (MORE)
How do I change the shift cable on my 1996 ford ranger 4.0 will not go into park. I have manually got under the truck and push the shifter into park.?
I had the same problem. Check the shift cable, the plastic sleeve that keeps the cable straight when shifting may be damaged in which case the cable will need to be replaced.
\n Downshifting \n. \nIt depends on how steep the hill is and how heavy your vehicle is.\n. \nIf you find that when going up the hill in second gear you are getting too many RPM's, then yes shift up to third. But generally you should keep in the lowest gear possible, without overrevving the en…gine, especially if you're driving a loaded van or other heavy car. (MORE)
What would cause your 2000 dodge ram 1500 transmission not to shift into high gear when accelerating If you tap the gas pedal it will shift?
this happens to all dodges trucks and cars thar are automatics ok thiis is caused by your sensor in your transmission. go to tranmission shop and get them to fix it TRUST ME It sounds to me as if you need to replace the governor pressure sensor and the governor pressure solenoid. I had the same prob…lem and it fixed it. this is a very common problem. Any dodge dealership will have the parts in stock. (MORE)
You have an automatic transmission on your 1995 Ford Mustang you cannot shift into any gears the shifter just slides up and down how would one go about repairing it themselves?
Answer . \nSounds like the shift linkage is broken or disconnected somewhere. You'll need to find and repair the problem. Shouldn't be too hard.
It is important to keep everything in a car working well. When apower window stops working, it is important to make repair it byreplacing the window motor, the blown fuse or the wiring that maybe causing the windows to not function. If the window can go down but not up, the power window motor andfus…e are working. Check the switch for dirty contacts and/or wiringfor damage. (MORE)
Answer . \nThere should be a mark indicating a left side and right side for the cable. The top connection will have a clip to remove the cable. It just slides on the cable post inside the tailgate door housing. The bottom connection requires the post to be removed. This is a torx tips screw, but… I was successful with pliers. Remove the screw and make sure the cable connection notch is pointing up when you replace the screw. (MORE)
Answer . Remove old one and follow same routing--make sure to "bleed" system when done
Why won't a 1996 Dodge 1500 Ram kick down into lower gears to accelerate It seems to be stuck in 3rd No warning lights have come on?
Answer . I have a 91 that did the same thing. It seemed like it was stuck in high gear. I couldn't give it much gas at slow speeds and had to gradually get up to speed. While you are driving down the road and it seems stuck in high gear, turn the truck off and start it again and see if it staigh…tens up.. I had to replace the torque converter lock out solenoid. Sounds complicated but it wasn't. the part was about 20-25 bucks from the dealer and i did it myself. First time working on any transmission stuff. (MORE)
My 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd automatic transmission does not go into 1st gear It will shift from 2nd to drive 3 ok. But cannot start in 1st I have to manually put it in 1st to start then 2nd then drive?
Had this in a truck I had once. It was the shift selector switch located on the side of the tranny. you could also check any switch or solenoid on the column.
What would cause a ram 1500 to all of a suden cut off while riding down the road and the check eninge lights is on and the truck will not start back up its a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a 110000 mile?
Answer . I believe it has jumped time I just purchased a 95 ram 1500 4x4 for my son it has done the same thing it acts as if were hot or low on oil I checked both but they are good. The truck will start but backfires first which leads me to believe it has jumped time or it may be possible a senso…r is malfuntioning. Snap-On tester will let me know. I'll post my findings as soon as I know. If someone finds something sooner please let me know.. Have someone check your fuel pump, had a '95 also..truck would run fine, then engine would cut out...let it sit for a while and it would fire up....ended coding check engine for oxygen sensor, put that was caused by the fuel mix....finally had dealership take out and found out it was the fuel pump (MORE)
Answer . Well I can tell u for this user it has been. We got this truck with 48,000 miles and it now has 111,000. We used it to run a roofing business and at times it hauled 10 square of shingles and tools. It has every recall in the book but truelly has been an awesome truck. We've done nothing… to it....including not changing the oil on a regular basis!!! (MORE)

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram Quadcab 1500. I usually experience intermittent start problems once every couple of weeks. I put the key in the ignition, turn and all I get is "click"?? The starter motor does not turn. After attempting to start for 5 or 10 minutes, it finally starts and everything is fine. …I have changed out the battery cable connectors, checked the alternator, and the battery voltage is around 13.4 volts. I'm at my wits end with this problem. My guess would be a faulty starter motor or some type of sensor??? I just haven't figured out which one is might be??? (MORE)
A fuse diagram, for your 1994 Dodge ram 1500 pickup truck, can befound on the inside cover of the fuse box. The diagram can also beobtained from most Dodge dealerships.
200 Dodge Ram pickup truck does not have a fuel filter. The only filtering device in the system is a "sock" fitted over the end of the fuel pickup tube in the gas tank.
Why does my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 feels like it loses power and is going to stall when you shift to drive then goes away if I give it gas?
The engine may not initially get enough power due to a dirty airfilter. The fuel filter can also cause the same problem.
Why would my 4x4 not work in my 1995 dodge ram 1500. it is an automatic with 4x4 gear shift on the floor?
Most of the dodge pickups around that year had vaccum engagement on the front end. The diaphrams would blow out or the supply line to them would get holes in them. with the engine running and the shifter in four wheel drive pull the line off the diaphragm and see if the is vaccum there.
It's behind the kick panel on the driver's side. It's a little rectangular module that plugs into a connector on the wiring harness.
Check out DriverSide.com- enter your year/make/model and click on the specs tab to find out all you could really need to know about your Ram truck.. That really didn't tell me the payload that i could hold.
Assuming that it is anautomatic And it's just the shifter that you want, at the bottom of the shifter by the steering column there is a pin. Take a punch and drive the pin out.
Could be 3.21, 3.55, or 3.92:1.. There may be a tag on the axle, yo could call a dealer with the vin, or if you count how many driveshat revolutions equal one tire revolution you will have an answer.
Your starter is located on the front of the transmission next to the flywheel on the driver side. Follow the thick wire down from the battery '+' terminal.
could be a sensor, had my 99 ram do it to me when i had 10,000 miles, lucky it was under warranty. it did it to me again at 30,000 it was another sensor at transmission
94 dodge ram with 318 when on going down the road oil pressure is about 30 to 35 in 5th gear at 50mph when i let off the gas it goes up to about 45 to 50 psi new oil pump as been installed?
It sounds to me like either the new pump may be too strong pumping oil out of the pan faster than it can flow back down to it or you have blockage not allowing enough oil to flow freely enough back down to the pan. When you let off it doesn't pump as much up at one time so it kind of catches up and …the oil pressure rises. I would have the engine checked for blockage and if there's no blockage I would see about getting a little deeper oil pan that'll allow you to have more fluid in it. (MORE)
1999 dodge ram quad cab 5.9L engine when I try to drive the truck will not change to 2nd gear it just revs up really high on rpm's had fluids changed about a month ago now NOTHING?
sounds like when they changed the fluid it either leaked out, clogged up, or they didn't add enough fluid to keep it running properly. either way its bad. probally need new transmission. i would take it back to the place that changed it and demand them to replace it.
I had to cut my stock rubber shifter knob off with a pocket knife over a year ago when i was convinced i wanted a new shifter knob for my 2004 dodge ram 1500. Unfortunately, the cheap replacements i bought, although they looked cool weren't worth a crap. I strongly recommend keeping the factory shif…t knob or replacing it with a shift knob that threads directly onto the metal shifter. The allen screw tightening shift knobs you will find at wall mart of your local auto supply store will eventually just loosen, wobble and fall off. (MORE)
Should be the turn signal stalk.. Could be either pull it toward you to cycle on and off, or push it away from you to turn on brights and toward you for low beams.
check the safety switch on the brake pedal for the parking gear lock make sure the break is pressed before you try 2 take it out of park
There are four ways to find a ratio. 1 A dealer can normally tell from the vin number. 2 There are normally tags or labels on the axle that have part number, gear ratio, and fluid requirement info. 3 You can count how many times you have to turn the driveshaft to get one complete turn of the… tires. 4 You can divide the number of teeth on the ring gear and divide by number of teeth on the pinion. What are the shifting speeds for a straight truck is it 1500 for the up shift and 1000 for the down shift like on a combination vehicle?
1500 up and 1000 down is a general rule of thumb... it'll vary by different motors. For example, you're actually better off to shift up with a Mercedes-Benz MBE or Volvo VED motor around 1700 RPMs. All the same, the general rule of thumb applies to a straight truck just as it does a combination vehi…cle... why wouldn't it, after all? What may change - and this will be dependent on how the vehicle is geared - will be your recovery gear. I'm assuming in driving school you were taught to add the two numbers of your current speed (in the nearest increment of five) to get your recovery gear from that. Thus, if you missed a gear, and your current speed was 25 miles per hour, you would add 2 + 5 = 7, and 7th gear would be your recovery gear. Many straight trucks - especially those intended for sitework use - are geared much lower, and you may need to add one number to your total to find your recovery gear, so that, at 25 miles per hour, you'd add 2 + 5 for a total of 7 then add one more, and 8th gear would be your recovery gear. Alot of Rams were known for sounding "tickey" under load or up hills and those were the result of lower intake gasket leaks. Yours may be different of course. Make sure it is fully tuned up and there are no leaks before moving on to the bigger issues it could be.
how dare you question the integrity of a Dodge Ram truck?? lol just kidding. yes, the Dodge Ram 1500 is an extremely reliable truck. my '06 has been through a lot in the 2 years that I've had it.
Sounds like your transmission fluid may be low. On the 2006 I don't think there is a dipstick to check it but the dealer or any of the lube oil places should be able to check it for you.
1500 is a 1/2 ton. 2500 is a 3/4 ton. 3500 is a 1 ton.
When you accelerate your blender door shifts to blow the air out the defrost vent on your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pick up truck how do I fix this from shifting?
Start under the hood check your hard plastic vacume lines, it could be as small as a pin hole to throw it off, I had this problem with my 99 ram, so trace your vacume lines from start to end for holes, tape works fine to fix the problem!
Why would a 2001 dodge ram 1500 sport being running fine until it warms up than start shifting rough?
bypass the the line that runs into the radiator. witch is a trans oil warmer. reconnect both lines together
My 1996 was made in Mexico. It should say on the info sticker on the drivers side door.

All 5.7L V8's use 16 or 2 per cylinder. The 4.7L V8's after 2009 use 16 or two per cylinder. All other engine use 1 per cylinder.
\n. The "bus" is the communication network on the vehicle. "no bus" is a failure message that the system is down. The problem can be any computer, or any wiring in between.
You take off the bolt at rear of oil pan and drain it. Then replace bolt and change oil filter on side of engine, then fill engine with required amount of new oil.
