01 cadillac low coolant light comes on how do you fix this?
Check your coolant first, if it's not low then replace coolant level sensor

Why would the Low Coolant light on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am come on even though coolant level is good for a split second when you first accelerate?
Either the coolant level is low in the recovery tank or the sensor is defective or has a loose connection. actually most of the time it's the floating magnet in the tank. the magnet goes up and down with the coolant level. If your coolant level is where it should be and it's not overheating then it'…s something to do with a sensor. but before you run out and buy a new one there a little trick you can do. loosen the tank (it's only one screw that holds it in) and give it a good shake for about 10 seconds. what happens is the floating magnet will get stuck making contact with the sensor and trick it into thinking the coolant is low. 90% of the time this is the problem!! In the radiator there is a sensor about 1/3rd of the way down from the top with 1 wire connected to it. When the sensor goes bad the low coolant light stays on. On our GM products replacing the sensor in the radiator turns the light off. The wire from the sensor to the dash light could have a bare s…pot in it and be touching metal witch would turn it on but I have never seen that yet. It would pay to check this also. (MORE)
Why would the low coolant warning light come on when the coolant is at a normal level on a 96 Pontiac Sun fire 22L?
Answer . \nthere is a sensor in the bottom of the coolant bottle, change this and you should be o.k.. Answer . \ntap the sensor with a screw driver it will go out uts just stuck
Answer . Check the upper and lower radiator hoses at the engine. They have a tendency to expand and split.
1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royle the Low Coolant light keeps coming on but there is plenty of coolant in the car what are some possilbe problems with it gautneypimp19yahoodotcom?
This is usually due to a faulty sensor in the coolant bottle. It could also be a bad connection. I had same thing happen to me on trip from Missouri to Wisconsin at night time. Stopped to check and nothing low It was connection at sensor Squeezed it with plyers and havent had problem agai…n for over 5 years now (MORE)
Why would the low coolant warning light occasionally come on in a 1998 Cavalier 2.2 when the coolant is not especially low?
Answer . Check your overflow bottle to make sure there is adequate coolant in there. If there is, the coolant level sensor is faulty and must be replaced.
The sensor is located underneath the coolant recovery tank. On a 1999 Cavalier, there could be some sludge built up underneath the tank. Unfortunately the sensor alone cannot be replaced, the entire tank and sensor comes as one piece and must be replaced. . Answer . tap on the side of your fill…/overflow tank where the sensor is located sometimes they get stuck (MORE)
Answer . \nthe sensor is faulty. Located half way down the side of the radiator.
I just had the radiator fixed in my 93 Chevy Corsica due to it leaking But the low coolant light is still on even when the coolant is full. How do you get it to shut off?
look to see if there is a plug in the bottom of the overflow resivoir. If so this is the "coolant level sensor" these often crud up and read low even when full. Often a couple raps with a rubber hammer on the top of the resivoir will unstick the sensor. Next step if does not work is remove and clean… the inside of the resivoir. If this does not fix, the sensor must be replaced. Sometimes it is available separately, sometimes the resivoir assembly must be purchased w/ sensor installed from your dealer. I DO NOT RECOMMEND A USED PART FROM A JUNK YARD FOR THIS REPAIR. It likely already has or will have the same problem. i like this answer except why not get a used one for $10 from the junkyard and try rather than getripped off by the dealer on a car that old? (MORE)
Probably depends on the year, but normally the same. Most GMs use Dexcool, which is held in a tank to the left of the engine, about mid way from the front to back of the engine bay. Be sure to add dexcool (oragne colour) if its already the type in the there (the coolant currently in the tank would a…lready be orange) which it most likely is. Its probably the easiest to buy the pre-mixed coolant, many coolants come unmixed and need a 1:1 ratio of water to coolant. So, a qt of coolant and a qt of water. Best to stick with the premixed for simplicity. Just be sure to read the directions. Anyway, best to do this when your engine is cold, then fill the coolant up to the line on the front of the tank reading reading "Full Cold". This can be diffcult to see, the marker is embosed and you'd be able to feel it. As for filling, if your having a hard time see where the level in the tank is, stop filling it and gently shake it, it is much easier to see the movement of the fluid and judge the level from there. Once you fill to the marker, seal the cap and that's about all there is to it. (MORE)
Answer . \nThe light will be on the left side of your dash. It will look like a box with a wavy line towards the top (to reperesent a liquid)
Answer . Low on coolant?\ndefective sensor should be located on back side of radiator approx. 1/3 down from top
In the engine compartment, on the left side of the engine is the coolant reservoir. In the coolant reservoir, there is a sensor at the bottom of the reservoir. This sensor is supposed to let you know when you are low on coolant, but can also become defective, and give you a "false-positive" reading.… The only way to know this is to check your coolant when the low coolant light comes on. If there is a significant decrease in coolant, you may have a problem in the cooling system , but if you don't, chances are the sensor isn't working. If the sensor is the problem, you can unplug it from the coolant reservoir, by unscrewing the two screws holding the reservoir to the car's inside firewall, then tilting the back of the coolant reservoir forward until you see wiring coming from the bottom of the reservoir, which is the plug for the low coolant sensor. Unplug the sensor, and the low coolant light won't come on anymore. However, you will now have to make sure you check your coolant level in the reservoir on a regular basis. (MORE)
It is possible that a check engine light on a Toyota Highlanderwill come on if the coolant level is low. Usually, though, there isanother light that will come on that says 'low coolant' on someolder Toyota's.
2001 cadillac catera What would cause a coolant low light although the tank is filled to cold line and the engine is not over heating?
Answer . Bad sensor? There is a coolant temp. sensor that goes bad. Mine been on for over a yr doesnt mean it is low....just bad sensor.
2001 Chevy impala low coolant light comes on even if the coolant is fulli changed thermostat and water pump.i run it for about 30mins. and the low coolant light comes on. please help?
Make sure the radiatpr is full and coolant overflow reservoir is at the full mark when cold. If it is full, Check the low coolant sensor located in the radiator on the passenger side. I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute. Why would my engine coolant light stay on and the fluid is not low It goes off then it will come back on. Any suggestions?
Our Tribute is doing the same. Anyone help? It can be the sensor or have the cap checked out. The caps in these go bad. You can replace the cap/container (sold as one unit), or try putting in approximately 1 qt of coolant above the full line (sometimes this works). the floating ball sinks and the se…nsor goes on to make the light come on there ios a recall for this bring it to your Mazda dealer (MORE)
What is the problem with a 1994 Oldsmobile Acheiva that the low coolant level light comes on and the reservoir is low within 9 days?
Answer . there is a small leak in the hoses or around the outside rim of your radiator
Answer . when the engine is cool, check the anti-freeze level. it may be low.
The low coolant sensor is etiher plugded, broken, or your coolant is actually low. Check the radiator and resivor tank to see if they are full. If they are and the light is on, drain the coolant. Be careful not to break the plastic petcock. The sensor is located next to the battery on the right side… of the car. Remove the battery and pull the sensor out. Clean it or replace it. then put everything back together. (MORE)
Some cars have a sensor in the reserve tank that sticks or the sensor on the engine is gone. Get a manual for you make and it will show the locations.
Just bought an 01 Saturn SC2 and the low coolant light keeps coming on I added coolant once and the tank is now full But the light comes on and will go off Is this a thermostat problem?
First check the coolant level. Make sure its full. The sensor is quite sensitive if the level gets to low. If it is low, then you have a leak somewhere and need to persue it. If its not low, then I would suggest taking the resiviour out and cleaning it with soap and water. The sensor can sometimes g…et junk stuck in it. If that doesn help then a new sensor is needed however you can NOT just by the sensor. You need to buy the entire resiviour tank. (MORE)
Just bought an 01 Saturn SC2 and the low coolant light keeps coming on you added coolant once and the tank is now full But the light comes on and will go off Is this a thermostat problem?
yes you should replace the thermostat and if that doesnt fix your problem then it will eb your heating sensor. ---------------------------------. Depends on the temperature of the car. Your car should run 1-2mm above 1/4 as per the guage. It should not take very long to get there either.. As to y…our low coolant light....if you are NOT low on coolant then you need to clean the sensor. The resiviour must be taken out and cleaned with soap and water. Once put back in if the problem persists a new sensor is needed. However you have to buy the entire reisiviour with the sensor. (MORE)
Somtimes the check lights will come back on because the computer in your car has not been reset. Check your manual that came with the car for a solution. there is a level sensor in the coolant canister located on the inner fender on the pasanger side under the hood. the radiator overflow line goes to this canister. this has happened to me several times on my 2001 Z-71. all i do is add anti freeze to the hot level, after the engine is at normal operat…ing temperature. after doing some reading i realized this is somewhat of a common problem. the low coolant level and temp light flashing at the same time. well my car started to do this so i started reading on possible ways to fix it. i removed the coolant tank, filled it up with water and soap and shook it for a go…od long time. then i shot the water hose in it. i was amazed at all the hard gunk that came out. literally big chunks. so i put that back on, and also installed a new ECTS. filled it up with coolant and so far that annoying light hasn't come back on. hope it stays off. so if any of u guys havent done this yet its highly recommended, even if the flashing hasn't started yet.. Simply fill the reservoir if it does not turn off you may need to replace the sensor that goes in it!
I am not a car guy, but my low coolant light just came on in my Saturn Vue. I checked the owners manual and it said I should add anti-freeze/coolant. If you go to a car parts store (NAPA, Auto Zone, Pep Boys), they can tell you what type of coolant to add. If the problem repeats, you probabaly have …a leak in your cooling system. Good Luck! (MORE)
It means your coolant level has become too low to provide adequate cooling for the internal workings of the engine. To avoid overheating, the sensors shut the engine down. Every car owner needs to check all their engine fluid levels at least once a week. Engines need this kind of attention too - aft…er all, they are only mechanical items and can only work as good for you as we keep them operating properly and with all the fluid levels where they are supposed to be. This also helps to prevent future problems. Get friendly with your engine - Be nice to it and it will be nice to you. (MORE)
There is no way to reset the light. If the light is on, then eitherthe coolant is low, the float is stuck or the sensor is bad.
maybe your just low on anti freeze I would take i tto your mechanic to check it out because if there is an underlying problem it could cost you your engine May I add: If you're not losing fluid because of a faulty gasket or leak to the exterior, read the following: Often an overlooked senso…r (the Low Fluid Sensor in the Radiator Coolant Overflow Tank) is the culprit. If you are not continually losing coolant, it's safe to say that you don't have any form of leakage. Unlike the sensory switch located at the rear of the radiator, fixing an issue attributed to a clogged "Low Fluid Sensor" can be quick and painless. You might not need to remove and clean this particular sensor --- simply repositioning and cleaning the sensor by GENTLY turning it back and forth a few times (while it remains in the reservoir tank) and making sure that the reservoir coolant level is correct will resolve the problem. If you find that the light stops coming on, you've isolated the issue. Now, drain the old antifreeze and replace the antifreeze with new antifreeze. Oh and while you're at it, remove and clean the interior of the coolant reservoir and remount it before you replace the antifreeze. Done. Happy motoring. (MORE)
My 1996 Pontiac sunfire low coolant light won't go off though the coolant is not low and every once and a while my check engine light come on and when that happens my ETS goes off what my problem?
both lights, the check engine and the low coolant light need to be reset and only a GM dealership can do that because they are the only ones that have the codes
If your asking this question its probably a good idea that you bring it into the shop to have the levels checked. DO NOT try to check your own coolant when the engine is still hot, this will send coolant bursting into the air. This is if you have any lol. Check your cars temperature gauge while your… drive, if its starts getting warmer than normal then you need a cooland change. (MORE)
First of all you have to find out how much gasoline can fit in the fuel tank. Then go to your local gas station (e.g Shell, Esso, etc.) and fill up the tank all the way. Then subtract the total amount of fuel that can fit in the tank from how much liters you filled and you get your total amount of fu…el that is on the low fuel. For example if 100 liters of fuel can fit in the tank and you filled 82 liters than that is 12 liters of fuel left. (MORE)
If it is just #1 cylinder with no adjacent cylinders, the problem may be a valve that is not closing all the way. Try using a fuel additive that will clean the smut from the valves.
Possible, but not likely. The check engine light is mainly for emission failures not fluid levels. Have it checked for codes to know the cause.
I had this problem and the manfold gasket was leaking I am aware of sensor issues with this but I has to replace the manifold gasket problem solved.
Why would the low coolant light come on and off from time to time after filling the system and engine not running hot or the cooling fans not coming on?
Check your coolant level again to see if the level has gone down. If it has check your engine oil level to see if it is above the normal full line. If it is this might mean you have a bad head gasket. I had a 92 grand prix that was not over heating but i was losing coolant, bad head gasket.
the low coolant light is only for radiater coolant, does not have anything to do with fuel pump!!
well basically you need to fill your coolant system up I'm not familiar with Chevy's but refer to the car manual
I own a 2004 and its a piece of crap, screw cadillac for producing good looking cars with crappy drivetrains. If you dont have a leak , it most likely will be your head gasket. Its making your coolant evaporate.
The Sensor is dirty cause of a lower intake leak it allows oil to get in the radiator. lower intake leaks roughly cost $800 to fix at a normal mechanic shop hope this helps.
the sensor could be dirty. clean off the accumulated crud with a toothbrush and if the low coolant light still remains on then the sensor will need to be replaced.
in the coolant bottle is a level sensor. (just as in the fuel tank) if this level sensor is bad, you have to change the sensor. In most cases, the unit is installed in the bottle before it is sealed at the factory. So you must change the whole bottle to fix the problem!
ADDING more oil may indicate it is working properly. Chilton's makes a fine manual for most cars.
It can mean you have low oil pressure and it can mean that the oil sending unit is bad. Do not ignore this and have this checked out by a trusted mechanic.
The sensor is located in the bottom of the surge tank and will require replacement if faulty..
You may have low coolant in the radiator and it is causing the sensor to flash as the coolant raises and lowers. Check the coolant level in the radiator (not the fill bottle) You may have air in the radiator and the air pocket may be causing the light to flash. You would need to bleed the air out. … You may have a bad sensor and needs to be replaced. It is located on the passenger side of the radiator below the fill neck (and has a wire going to it) (MORE)
