Why would a 1995 Mustang tail lights and dash lights not come on when the headlamps are turned on but the brake lights work when the brakes are applied?
%REPLIES%. Answer . Try checking the fuses. Had similar problem with 86 Mustang and 83 Rx7 and that was the fix.. Answer . I had the exact same problem on my 95 Mustang GT. It did not occur instantaneously though (the first time). When I would pull the light knob out to the second positio…n where the headlignts and the parking lights where suppossed to be on, my parking lights would go out. If I pushed the light knob in slightly, they would turn on. This problem got progressively worse, where I had to fiddle with it all the time to get the parking lights to work. I figured there was something wrong with the switch behind the dash so I pulled it out and it was burned up. I replaced it and it worked fine.\n. \nThat was about a year ago. Then yesterday it happened again. I haven't looked at it yet, but will repost if I find anything different. I can't remember what brand of switch I bought last time. I think it was an off brand though.. Answer . Yep, same problem. The connector that hooks up to the switch was so burned up the metal contacts were not seating properly with the switch pins. Had to go to the junkyard for a new connector and a spare switch. 3 out of the 6 junked mustangs had the headlamp switch pulled, so it must be a reasonably common problem.. Answer . \nThis is a common problem on most Ford products that I own. The electronic parts seem to lack the gauge needed to do the work. I had to replace the connector housing and spades on my '88 Mustang. When I went to replace my heater core on my '94, I found that it had the same problem as my '88. The connector seems to heat up and melt the plastic to cause potental for a fire hazard. I would start with replacing the connector on the switch and check to make sure that the switch itself is still good. My '94 would scream a little if not put in the right spot. Good luck my man. Why wouldn't the tail lights and dash lights come on when the headlamps are turned on yet the brake lights work on a 1994 Ford Explorer?
Answer . \nCheck your owner manual for fuse location and description. Probably just a bad fuse.
Answer . Have you checked to see if the fuses are still good. It might also be that you just need to put new bulbs in. Worst case senerio is you have an electrical problem.\n. \nHave you checked the earth contacts and cables? Poor earths cause strange effects.
How do you re-center the proportional valve to get the parking brake light to go off in your 1992 Chevy G20 Van?
First Bleed the rear brakes then the fronts. Check the brake fluid in the resivore. Also check the the E-Brake switch is working properly, Then drive the van a few feet an cram on the brakes hard. If previous suggestion does not help, there is a chance that the valve is jammed and will not center. …Replacement may be necessary. Just take your foot and stomp the break pedal real hard, 4 to 5 times. This should push the ball back over. Give it a try. Works for me. (MORE)
Answer . Drop the steering column and you will see the clip that retains the switch to the brake pedal shaft, the switch also clamps on to the linkage that goes to the master cylinder. Pop the clip on the brake pedal, swing the switch down off the linkage and slide it to the left and it will come… off. If the switch was not clamped to the linkage this will cause the switch not to work. I've also found the slightest amount of play on the shaft will cause it to work intermitent, wrapping the switch in place with packing tape works great. (MORE)

everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and a professional shop manual should be available at the library in the reference section for FREE...make copies of the right pages and fix your vehicle like a PRO! :) good luck Dave :) aww common Dave we come here in order not to go to the libray...…2 Phillips head screws on either side of the lamp need to be removed, then carefully (there is double sided tape holding it to the roof) pry it from the roof, make sure you protect the paint from your pry tool of choice. reseal the lamp to the body to keep out any moisture, that will kill the new one. Answer . I have a 2000 Silverado with the step-side box. To change the brake lights on mine, I opened the tailgate and found 2 (at least I think it was 2) Phillips head screws that went through the side of the box and into the tail light housing. With the screws out, I rotated the tail light asse…mbly away from the box and disconnected the wire harnesses. The bubs themselves are 1/4 twist to remove. (MORE)
Why would a 1994 Chevy Silverado 1500 stall when the headlights are turned on or the brakes are applied?
Answer . \nit sounds like you may have a short somewhere in your lighting wiring. its grounding out and stalling the motor.
Answer . \nI assume you have checked/replaced the bulbs. Take a cicuit tester and check the wire harness connections under the bumper and around the trailer connector if you have one. The problem must be at that area IF all your other lights are working as you said.
Answer . Check and make sure you have the correct bulb. The turn signal/brake light is a dual element bulb and if you have a single element it does not work properly.

Why don't the brake lights work when tail lights turn signals emergency flashers and 3rd brake light do on my 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo?
Answer . First thing I'd check would be the fuse for the stop lights. If it is okay the next thing I'd check would be the stoplight switch located under the dash where the brake pedal is suspended.
Answer . I think it is near the pivot of the brake pedal lever where it connects to the rod for the master cylinder. It's really hard to see because it is up under the dash just above the steering column shaft. It looks like a white plastic module with some wires attached. For what it's worth. I'…m no mechanic. What fuse controls the brake lights on a 1984 Chevy camero all lights work except no brake lights when the brake pedal is pushed?
its probably not a fuse at all, but it could be your brake light switch. its under the dash hooked to the pedal. I had to replace one on my 84 t-bird
Check operation and/or alignment of the stoplight switch usually located at the upper end of the brake pedal -under dash area
Check bulbs - they are double filamented with the smaller beign for brake and turn signals. Check the sockets for power and ground. Could be an open wire under bed. Possibly a problem insdie the steering column
Check fuse. Check power to and through stop light switch at the upper end of brake pedal. Check bulbs - they are dual filamented with the smaller being for brake lights. What fuse controls the brake lights on a 96 Chevy 1500 All lights and turn signals work except no brake lights when brake pedal is pushed?
I'm not exactly sure which fuse it is, but it doesn't sound like a fuse to me. I would check the switch on the pedal, just simply short acrost it from terminal to terminal with a screwdriver, if the brake lights come on, the switch on the pedal is bad, if they don't then it probably is a fuse.
If you are talking about the tail light the lens is not a separate part of the lamp assy. Replace the complete assy by removing the two screws on the outside and unpluging the lamp socket.
Check the fuses first. Is sounds like there is a power failure tothe light system. There could also be a broken wire to the fusebox.
When bleeding the brakes on a 93 Chevy 1500 what do you do when the peddle will not go to the floor?
If bleeding rears and bleeder is open and peddle wont go to the floor try a front bleeder to see if you get results. what did you do to have to bleed them?
Why would a 2002 Chevy Express brake lights work when the headlights are off but when you the headlights are turned on the brake lights are on and go off when you press the pedal?
i found it to be the tail light harnesses go bad . a common problem with them because the bulb sockets short out.
most likely a bulb b/c if it was the fuse your other brake and signal light wouldn't work... most vehicles the brake and signal light are all in one bulb.... try replacing the light bulb
I replaced the turn signal bulb on my 2000 Chevy Venture Van and now it blinks erratically when the brakes are applied. Even with no turn signals on when I hit my brakes both signal arrows light up.?
As this issue started when you replaced a bulb you may have inadvertently put a single filament bulb into a dual filament socket. . Remove the new bulb you installed and look into the socket. . If the bottom of the socket has two contacts but your "new" bulb only has one, on it's bottom, then th…at is the problem. The single contact touches both the brake and the turn-signal contacts in the bottom of the socket at the same time causing the short. . If the correct bulb is in fact installed then check the wiring into the lights. There is probably a short - some bare wires. (MORE)
On mine, when the lights are off, the left brake light is faint but still works. When the lights are one, the running light is on (faint) but goes out when I hit the brakes. And the turn signal doesnt ever work. When Ive checked the light bulbs they burn out fast. I have been told that replacing… the plastic bulb housing will fix this. But I have not tried it yet. (MORE)

If you mean the brake lights are stuck on, then check the stoplight switch located on the top of the brake pedal.
\nMove the switch until it opens the contact when the brake pedal is pushed down 1/2".
I had the same problem in my '97 Lumina. There is an actuator switch in the steering column that was bad. There was a couple years that Chevy and GMC used a circuit board in the tail light assembly. It was a bad design. We had several in our fleet at work and many went bad. They are available from the dealer new. Not much you can do to repair the old one, just replace it with a new one.
What could be the problem I have headlights tail lights and turn signals but no brake lights on my 1997 Chevy wt 1500 v6 2wd?
Before you take the Chevy in for a diagnostic test, you can look at the fuse box and see if the fuse is burnt for the brake lights. If so, go to some place like AutoZone or O'Reilly's and sometimes someone there will even help you find and replace a fuse. Also, it would be odd if both brake light bu…lbs burned out at the same time, but not impossible. \ (MORE)
What fuse controls the brake lights on 2001 Dodge Van all lights and trn signals work except no brake lights when brake pedal is pushed?
It is not necessarily the fuse. It could be the switch on the brake that is not closing the circuit.
first remove the tire and then you can remove the two larger bolts on the bracket that holds the cylinder and brake pads. The bolt size is either a 13/16 or 3/4 inch. Tap the rotor with a rubber mallet or hammer, if their are clips on the studs you need to remove them first and the rotor should come… off and then slide the new one on over the studs and replace the clips if possible but not necessary. Next put the caliper back on and then replace the two larger bolts. You may have to open caliper cylinder by prying a flat head screw driver in between the pads and rotor then remove two smaller bolts which are 7/16 to 5/8 inch take out pads and replace with the new ones and shims if possible . make sure all bolts are tight as possible when putting back together also do not touch the rotors or brakes with dirty hands or gloves don't allow grease to get on these parts where the pads touch the rotors. will cause noise latter on. Hi, The fuse for the brake lights is located in the fuse panel that is mounted on the passenger side of the dash. You can see the panel if you open the passenger side door. The fuse you are looking for is fuse number 30 and it should have power at both sides of the fuse at all times, if the fuse …is good. I believe it is a 15 amp fuse. You can see a diagram and picture at link I have provided. Good Luck, Greg (MORE)
open trunk and look behind the taillights as the bulbs just twist and pull out.
You've got something wrong with your wiring, causing current to jump from the indicator circuit over into the brake light circuit.
The most common mistake on these is when the bulb and connector are removed, they get mixed up and reinstalled in wrong socket and or the wrong bulb is used. First look at the wiring to the connectors at rear bulbs. Back up lights and tail lights have 2 wires. The brake/ turn signal connector has th…ree wires. Make sure the bulb that is in the two wire connector has only one fillamment in the glass. Make sure the three wire connector has a bulb with two fillaments in the glass. Now turn headlights on. Put the bulbs that are lit in the center holes of housing. The other 2 wire for back up lights goes in the hole where the clear lense is. And the 3 wire up top. Brake lights are on a different circuit then headlights. You should be able to turn headlights on and emergency flashers and watch both tail lights stay on and brake light/turn bulbs flash brighter. On the driver's side brake pad there is the sensor. It would be the… best way to get the light off as far as I'm concerned. (MORE)

Add brake fluid to the master cylinder and that should take care of it. However, there must be a reason the master cylinder is that low. Either there is a leak and/or you are due for a brake job. Check the front brakes to see if they are about due, as they consume a lot of the fluid. Check the rear …brakes for the same, but also check them for a leak. If there is any sort of wetness, sludge (not powder) then your wheel cylinder is leaking. (MORE)
Assuming you have already checked the bulbs and sockets, next check the fuse, then check the brake light switch, then check the signal switch.
